Concrete is one of my favorite materials due to its ability to be manipulated in various shapes as well as finishes. At Casa do Conto (House of Tales) in Portugal, the engraved texts of selected author narrations were used to decorate hotel rooms ceilings. The tales narrate the renovation and the concept of the project as well as the relation of the house to the city’s architecture covers six rooms ceilings. Designed by Pedra Líquida, each room follows a modern style with some touch of neo-classicism through furnishing. Another beautiful example of concrete architecture is the staircase area, with the walls concrete wooden reliefs. The staircase has a minimal metallic design, and the opening at the roof creates a wonderful light penetration. The rooms have a gallery type of atmosphere and I absolutely adore this concept.
